PETG drying should follow the specific filament product, drying method, and spool limits. A temperature borrowed from another PETG blend may not match your material. Use a documented cycle where required, preserve a small comparison print, and protect the prepared spool afterward instead of using repeated heating as a general printer fix.
Identify which PETG you have
Record the brand, full product name, and any modifiers such as reinforced, high-flow, or a named blend. Save the manufacturer’s preparation source with that entry. Similar labels can describe products whose instructions differ, so avoid assigning one permanent PETG recipe to every spool in your inventory.
For example, Prusa’s Prusament table lists PETG at 55°C for six hours. This is an example for the named product family in that table, not a universal PETG preset. Confirm the method and spool instructions before applying it, particularly when moving a process from one manufacturer’s equipment to another.
Resolve conflicting instructions before heating
Manufacturer pages can contain inconsistencies. At our source check, PolyMax PETG’s page listed 65°C for six hours in its Print Settings and usage guidance, but a technical summary listed four hours. That conflict should be resolved through the current technical sheet or manufacturer support for the exact product.
Do not average the durations or silently treat the longest number as always correct. Record the source and the reason for the procedure you adopt. A repeatable preparation routine is stronger when it is tied to a specific instruction rather than a guess hidden behind a familiar polymer name.
Check the machine and spool together
Compare the required process with the dryer’s supported range, operating mode, and loading instructions. Confirm that the carrier spool and any adapter tolerate the selected conditions. A machine capable of a high temperature does not establish that the object loaded inside it should be heated that far.
If drying two PETG spools together, verify both products independently. Two colors with the same broad material label may still come from different grades or manufacturers. Group them only when their instructions support the common cycle; otherwise prepare them separately and keep their histories distinct.

Use the material maker’s storage guidance, maintain the enclosure’s desiccant if applicable, and record any prolonged exposure or changed print behavior. A clear location and recent result are more informative than an unsupported label saying permanently dry.
For regular PETG work, keep one compact record containing the exact product, source, cycle, machine, and comparison result. Update it when you change brands or formulations. That turns preparation into a practical part of the printing workflow and helps distinguish a moisture-related change from the next unrelated slicer or hardware problem.
