Unexpected popping during extrusion, rough surfaces, increased stringing, or inconsistent output can justify checking filament condition. None is a standalone moisture test. The useful question is whether a manufacturer-supported drying cycle changes a reproducible defect while the printer, file, and profile remain the same.
Look for a change from your own baseline
A photograph of someone else's failed print is a weak reference because materials and profiles differ. Begin with the last successful result from the same spool or product. Note what changed: storage duration, material lot, nozzle, speed, room, or slicer profile. Several changes at once make the cause harder to isolate.

Use those sources to frame possibilities. Avoid diagnosing a spool from one characteristic such as brittleness or a few hairs between towers without considering how it behaved previously.

Save the failed print's project file and take a clear close-up of the affected area. Describe the location: throughout the walls, only between separate features, after a color change, or after several hours. Location and timing are often more useful than the broad statement 'bad quality.' Keep the spool's full product name in the same note.
If the problem involves an unusual sound, distinguish noise at the nozzle from clicking at the feeder. Observe from a safe position without touching moving or heated components. Do not deliberately provoke a jam to reproduce a noise; use the printer manufacturer's diagnostic process.
Run one controlled preparation comparison
Find the exact filament maker's drying instructions and confirm that both the spool and equipment support them. Complete the prescribed process, then repeat the same small test with the original profile. Keep your comparison small enough that you can inspect it closely and repeat it without consuming a large project.
Label the two results before you compare them. If one result improves, write down which feature improved rather than calling the whole spool fixed. Less stringing with the same remaining surface mark suggests you may have addressed one contributing factor while another problem still needs attention.

If there is a clear improvement, build storage and preparation around the successful documented process. If there is no change, investigate the matching printer symptom. A feed problem, material mismatch, or unsuitable slicer setting will need a different correction. Repeated drying without a new hypothesis does not make the diagnosis stronger.
If the material or spool appears distorted after the cycle, stop using that setup and contact the manufacturer with the recorded settings and photographs. Do not respond by increasing heat further. Use that record when asking support for help. 'These two tests used the same file; only the approved drying cycle changed' is easier to evaluate than 'I tried everything.' A successful moisture diagnosis is a narrow, repeatable explanation of an observed improvement. It does not establish that every future defect on that printer will also be caused by a wet spool.
