Nylon is not one dryer setting. PA6, PA12, PA11, blends, and reinforced products can have different preparation requirements. Start with the exact manufacturer’s drying instruction, then match equipment and spool limits. A dryer advertised for nylon may still fall short of the process specified for the particular nylon you intend to use.
Identify the polymer and the product
Record the complete name, including the PA type and any carbon- or glass-fiber modifier. Keep the product’s current technical sheet, safety information, and preparation guide together. A general nylon article is useful background, but it cannot replace those product-specific instructions.
Polymaker’s material documentation distinguishes multiple nylon families and explains their moisture sensitivity. The practical consequence is to avoid building a shopping list around the word nylon alone. Choose the material needed for your project first; its preparation requirements then become a concrete filter for drying equipment.
Check the required process before selecting a dryer
As a specific example, Polymaker lists Fiberon PA6-CF20 drying at 100°C for eight hours when the material has absorbed moisture. A dryer whose supported ceiling is 70°C or 85°C does not meet that published temperature merely because its product page lists PA compatibility.
This example is not a preset for other nylons. Obtain the instructions for the exact grade and method you use. If your machine falls short, ask the filament maker for a supported alternative or select suitable equipment. Do not invent a longer low-temperature cycle and present it as equivalent.
Keep drying, annealing, and conditioning separate
A product page may describe more than one thermal or moisture process. The Fiberon PA6-CF20 page separately lists annealing at 80°C for six hours. Those values describe a different operation from drying the feedstock; copying the easier-looking pair of numbers would change the task.
Also distinguish filament preparation from any specified conditioning of the finished part. Keep separate records for what happens before printing and what happens to the completed object. That distinction matters when evaluating a functional component, because a neat-looking print does not establish that every required post-processing step has been completed.

Verify every part of the heated load
Check the carrier spool and any adapter against the selected temperature. A high-temperature-capable dryer does not make an unknown spool suitable. Identify the spool’s construction or revision and follow the maker’s preparation instructions rather than relying on its appearance.
Confirm physical fit and airflow clearances in the intended loading arrangement. Pre-drying and protected feeding are separate stages to plan.
Record the process, printer profile, and a relevant first-print result, then return unused material to the prescribed storage. If a component has a demanding mechanical use, evaluate it against the project’s actual requirements rather than inferring suitability from reduced stringing. A useful nylon routine is documented from material selection through preparation, printing, and any specified treatment of the finished part.
