Confirm the loaded reel's diameter and width, the exact dryer layout, free rotation, feed path, required drying temperature, and reel heat tolerance. Carry those measured requirements into the Dryer Finder and keep unknown specifications marked for verification rather than treating them as matches.

Start with the answer: spool weight does not prove dryer fit
Do not buy a dryer from the reel's kilogram label alone. Two reels carrying the same mass can use different flange diameters, widths, hubs, and winding profiles. A 3kg or 5kg search therefore begins a fit check; it does not finish one.
The evidence must connect one measured reel assembly to one documented dryer configuration. Keep the filament's 1.75mm or 2.85mm strand diameter separate from the carrier's outer dimensions. Strand compatibility, reel fit, drying temperature, and feed-path compatibility are four different gates.

Record: reel maker and exact product or revision; nominal filament mass; maximum loaded flange diameter; widest loaded width; hub or roller contact shape; every adapter, extension, axle, or replacement carrier that remains installed; number of reels used at once; intended slot or loading layout; required temperature and time for the exact filament grade; the reel heat-tolerance source; and the planned outlet, tube, and printer route.
Measure the assembly that will actually go into the dryer. Include a rim adapter in diameter, a side adapter in width, and any protruding axle part that changes clearance. Write unknown rather than estimating from a photograph. A useful result is either a documented pass, a documented failure, or a clearly named unknown—not an optimistic guess.
Compare the worksheet with the exact loading layout
Use the manufacturer's per-reel envelope or loading diagram, not chamber arithmetic. Supports, rollers, walls, sensors, and airflow paths reduce usable space. Dividing a chamber width by its advertised spool count does not establish a safe per-spool width.
Large-spool and multi-spool modes may be different products in practice. EIBOS documents Polyphemus for two 210 × 80mm reels, one 210 × 170mm reel, or an expanded single-reel arrangement up to 250 × 170mm with extension parts. Handle 3kg and 5kg searches without inventing compatibility
For a 3kg reel, compare the exact loaded dimensions with a named configuration. SUNLU's current FilaDryer E2 page documents one SUNLU 3kg reel and gives a maximum single-spool envelope of 250mm diameter by 153mm width. That statement does not certify every 3kg reel, and it does not establish the two-spool layout for other reel shapes.
This site's verified standalone-dryer catalog does not establish a universal 5kg match. Enter the actual 5kg reel diameter and width in the Dryer Finder. If a known product limit is smaller, the product is rejected; if a required dimension is unpublished, it remains in Needs verification. Do not convert an unknown into a fit claim.
Run six fit gates before calling a match confirmed
Gate 1—static envelope: loaded diameter and width fit the documented configuration. Gate 2—supported layout: spool count, slot, axle, rollers, and any required extension match the manual. Gate 3—free movement: the flange and adapter rotate without rubbing the lid, wall, sensor, or neighboring reel.
Gate 4—airflow and clearance: the load does not block required vents or heater clearances. Gate 5—thermal suitability: both the exact filament process and the reel construction support the selected temperature; Prusa's documentation distinguishes spool generations, so branding alone is insufficient. Gate 6—feed path: the supported outlet and tube route reaches the printer without forcing the filament or removing protective parts.

Interpret confirmed, needs-verification, and no-match results
Confirmed means every requirement you entered is covered by documented catalog values. Needs verification means at least one required temperature, capacity, diameter, width, or product-fit field is missing or model-specific. It is not a weaker recommendation. Obtain the exact manual, loading diagram, or manufacturer confirmation before buying or heating the reel.
No match means a known boundary fails—for example, required temperature exceeds the documented maximum, spool count exceeds capacity, or the entered reel dimension is larger than a published limit. Keep the requirement and change the equipment or workflow. Do not erase the measurement, split a required continuous process without manufacturer support, or force a marginal fit to make a product appear compatible.
Carry the worksheet into the Dryer Finder
Open the Dryer Finder and select the exact manufacturer profile or enter the temperature from your material datasheet. Then enter simultaneous spool count, loaded reel diameter, and loaded reel width. Leaving either dimension blank means physical fit is not fully checked, even when the temperature and capacity match.
The Finder intentionally screens standalone dryers only. AMS heating upgrades such as EIBOS Tetras and Dyas require a compatible host AMS and possibly a model-specific adapter, so they do not appear as ordinary dryer matches. Evaluate those systems with their host compatibility documentation instead of treating a temperature ceiling as proof of a complete fit.
Save one fit record for the exact assembly
Save the completed measurements with the reel product, dryer model, layout, adapters, filament grade, source URLs, and date checked. Record the outcome of a normal unheated loading and rotation check before beginning the supported drying cycle. Do not defeat an interlock, remove a guard, or leave equipment operating contrary to its manual to make the reel fit.
Recheck when the reel supplier, refill carrier, adapter, dryer revision, or loading position changes. The old record still describes the old assembly. This prevents a correct measurement for one reel from quietly becoming an unsupported promise for an entire brand, mass class, or dryer family.
